Re: Brooking's Best...
He was superb, remember beating Ipswich 3-1 and he floated the ball on people's head they couldn't miss. Also beating Chelsea 4-0 at Upton Park Borotta the keeper clapped him when he chipped him.

Re: Brooking's Best...
It was after it got a bit lively in the ground and it was one of our mates who got killed outside by that fucking coach driver cunt. Then WH/government wouldn't fork out to fly his body back.
We organised a march from Mile End to Downing st but OB stopped it near Waterloo and his brothers then went and handed a petition in.
And then he called US scum!

Anyway gone off track now.
Geno was still the best!

Remember the next home game after the scum call , Bonds was warming up about ten miutues before kick off and bloke in front of me just steps over the wall goes up to him and has a word never shouting or waving his arms always staying
calm but made his point for sure.

Re: Brooking's Best...
'Bonzo' is worshipped by so many..but he wasnt my favourite in any respect.
Slagged off our support in for the trouble in spain.
Managed Wall..and to be frank..was bang average as a footballer.
A warrior and leader of men who served the club as well as any man...without doubt.

Re: Brooking's Best...
Tanman, yes I am sure him and Bonzo were doing that. Bonzo was a lion of a man on the pitch and would take players out with the ball, I should think pretty handy off of it should the occasion arise.

Both real family men it seems. Brooking was non aggressive, but deceptively canny at nicking the ball off an opponent rather than Bonzo's no nonsense approach which everyone loved about Bonzo.

Brooking just edges it for me, purely because of his sublime footballing skills.

Re: Brooking's Best...
Riddle, too young to commnet but he is my uncle and my Dad reckons Trevor couldnt tackle and thats why he needed Bonzo next to him. However my Dads anecdote is that during matches Trevor used to say to Bonzo, 'Have a word Bill' in reference to whoever on the other side was likely to give Trevor particular attention. Then Bonzo would make his presence felt accordingly.

"I once had the pleasure of standing next to him on the Central Line"

Did you get a stiffy when you rubbed yourself up against him?

J.Riddle 3:35 Wed Feb 15
Re: Brooking's Best...
Brooking was not an outstanding aggressive tackler like the greats Bonds, Norman Cunter, Tommy Smith, Souness, but he never ever shirked a tackle and would more often than not whip the ball away from his opponents feet without them knowing, hence regaining possession as he had deceptively skilful quick feet, something which most opponents didn't possess, suffice to say Brooking was a good tackler.

Re: Brooking's Best...
My favourite West Ham player of all time. I once had the pleasure of standing next to him on the Central Line when he got on at Gants Hill (he used to park his car nearby on the way to Lancaster Gate.)

A good tackler? Pretty asure he was not regarded as a good tackler.

Re: Brooking's Best...
And to top it all off the winning goal in the cup final!

Which confused Brian Moore at the time on who scored it.

"scrambled egg on toast and a cuppa, in bed......get up about 11, drive to the ground about 45 minutes away, maybe an hour if the traffic was bad, quick rub down, which i didnt like, then game on"

"I could have gone to a first division side and won nothing, but at West Ham i won three trophies"

What a player.

What a man.

West Ham LEGEND

I am certain a fully fit Brooking and Keegan would have won us the World Cup in '82.
He deserved that stage..
